What do you get when you mix 1 part yogi + 1 part runner + 1 part science writer?
A Boston-based gal with many passions and a healthy dose of curiosity. For this blog, I’ve decided to let art imitate life and not choose just one thing. I plan to write about many of my interconnected interests, including yoga, running, and meditation with some science and writing talk sprinkled in for good measure. I hope to encourage readers to loosen up, dive deep, and build some dialogue centered around pursuing a full, fun, and balanced life.
Explore around and feel free to reach out to me with comments, questions, or suggestions – I’m eager to hear and learn from you!
Here are some fun facts about me to get you started:
#1: My job title is Science Writer. Which means that I strategically/magically managed to combine my two great loves into one job! I have degrees in biology, environmental science, and English, and I’ve spent the past 8 years writing about topics including public health, medicine, cancer research, waterborne diseases, and water resource management. Disclaimer: I was afraid to admit that I’m a word nerd in this blog. While I always strive for stellar grammar in my professional work, my goal here is to let the words and thoughts fly without too much editing. And guess what?! I can do that because I make the rules here! *mic drop*
#2: I went through a yoga teacher training with no aspiration of teaching. I was never opposed to teaching, but I loved yoga so much that in early 2015, I decided to learn all that I could about yoga from the ground up. Luckily, I also found out that I loved sharing this practice and have been teaching at studios and events around Boston ever since.
#3: I love Jeopardy, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, & board games. I know these are largely activities reserved for children or the elderly, but a quiet afternoon in Vermont post-skiing with a craft beer and some combination of these activities is about as good as it gets in my opinion!
#4: I enter The New Yorker cartoon caption contest every week. If you commute on the slow and inconsistent T in Boston every day, you need reliable weekly entertainment. I’ve never won the contest, but I have submitted captions that are a word or two off from winners, so fingers crossed…
#5: When I was 11, I read 86 books in one summer. The librarians all knew me by name. I did not get a tan and probably lost a few friends. I’ve been trying to rekindle (get it?) that level of love for reading ever since.
#6: My favorite childhood toys were dinosaurs. Jurassic Park was my favorite movie (did i say was?) and I’ve loved every sequel since. Yeah, even that second one. My boyfriend luckily finds this very endearing and likes to tell people that as a kid, I had dinosaurs instead of Barbies. This is false. I had Barbies. It’s just that they were forced to battle dinosaurs across my living room, and they almost always lost.
